Dagen før Oscar-uddelingen blev der traditionen tro afholdt årets Independent Spirit Awards. Priserne blev godt fordelt, men Darren Aronofskys The Wrestler tog flest priser hjem. 3 blev det til i alt. Bl.a. for årets bedste film.
